Two weeks ago, I laid out how Trump is actively working to undermine the 2026 and 2028 elections. Unfortunately, the latest update isn’t a good one. Trump has vowed to issue an executive order to end mail-in ballots and voting machines for the 2026 midterms.
As usual, this attack is founded in baseless claims of election fraud and inaccuracy of voting machines and mail-in-ballots — even though there’s no evidence to support that.
This is old school Republican strategy — when you can’t win an election, suppress the vote. Voting by mail allows people who can’t cast their ballot in person a way to make their voices heard — and are used more often by Democrats. Voting machines speed up the process for those who do vote in person, helping to reduce long lines that can deter turn out — an issue more widespread in urban, Democrat leaning districts.
It’s also illegal as fuck. The Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution grants state legislatures the authority to determine the “times, places and manner” of holding federal elections. Congress can pass federal legislation to impose uniform standards, but the President stepping in via executive order is entirely out of bounds.
Combine that with reports that Trump’s inner circle is openly strategizing to undermine the 2026 midterms by weaponizing the Justice Department, intimidating election officials, and making it harder to vote in swing districts. His White House plan includes deploying federal law enforcement to “monitor” polling places, targeting election workers with harassment, and demanding voter data from states. We’re right on track to a fully rigged system.
More than that, purging voters from the rolls per Dhillon at the DOJ too.
Whatever has them this…oh…and that’s RCP in your CONSERVATIVE inbox daily, the spread is actually D+4 in aggregates of all site pollsters.

It’s not enough to easily overcome what they’re doing, so we need to widen it between now and Nov of next year, but it’s a bad trajectory for the GOP…they know it, so will do anything/everything to win.
The courts and frankly others have to fight back with all they have against Trump’s authoritarian impulses with this EO here, and there: Marc Elias certainly will but he’s only one man, can’t do it on his own or with his voting rights organization.
The voters need help, can’t do it on their own.
